About The Old Police House

A terraced former police house in the village centre of Braunton, this charming cottage is just three miles from the beautiful North Devon Coast. Located in the heart of the village, you are surrounded by village shops, surf shops, traditional village pubs, contemporary restaurants, bars and cafes, and also close to the bank and cash point. With sandy beaches and golf courses, this is an ideal holiday cottage for all the family. The Old Police House has been beautifully converted, with some of the interesting original features retained. The kitchen with its large dining area leads out to a utility room and surfboard storage area. The sitting room has plush sofas and a large TV, and makes a really cosy, relaxing family room. The former ground floor cell has the original viewing panel and now serves as a bedroom with bespoke bunk beds, and the wide staircase used to take criminals up to the first floor has a fabulous feature window, letting in plenty of light to the upstairs landing. The three bedrooms on the first floor are spacious; the Kingpin Room with a king-size bed, the Garden Room with a double bed and patio doors leading out to the garden, and The Family Room which can either be made up with a super king-size double and a single, or with three single beds. The enclosed rear garden is reached via the inner hallway or the utility room, and several steps lead up to extensive decking across two areas. The decking can also be reached from one of the first floor double bedrooms, being on the top level, and it has wonderful views across the village, providing a sunny spot to relax around the barbecue. A short stroll into the village provides easy access to a bistro, pubs, cafes and shops and a three-mile drive leads to the fabulous long sandy beach at Saunton, which is backed by Braunton Burrows, a vast area of sand dunes, designated an AONB. A welcoming cottage with a wealth of charm, close to beaches and family fun.

The Old Police House Reviews

Poor service from sykes cottages and cleanliness
Booked here with sykes cottages have emailed them no response so dont like leaving reveiws but feel i have tobon arrival there was the rubbish from previous tenants the parts of decking were unusable the top of fridge in kitchen was filthy the bath had scum in hadnt been cleaned for months looked like the shower screen was the same we found underwear in one bedroom on the floor the sofa in the living room had choclate and sweets under it as the dog sniffed these out all in cleanliness was very poor
Lovely post lockdown getaway
First trip after lockdown and it was a dream. Lovely house with lots of space and everything you can think of needing in the kitchen! Close to a few different beautiful beaches and good walks nearby. Was very clean and with no direct contact with hosts all was covid secure. Great convenient location right in the centre of town. Will certainly look at getting some space next year when pubs are open :)
Below Standard
I was very shocked to find rubbish from previous Guests left in the garden by the back door. The owner know of our booking but no heating had been on for days so the house took 12 hours to heat up. The towels had seen better days, must have been years old. The house was not cleaned very good, make up on sheets, dirty floors. Would not book this cottage again. Did report it but to date no apologies from owner
Lovely coastal weekend
Stayed for two nights, visiting the beach a couple of times during our stay. The house is centrally located on a road in the village, with shops and restaurants less than 5 minutes away, but it is still very quiet. House is very well equipped, we cooked while we were there. Garden was a bit cold for sitting out this time of year in the evening- we shall have to come back during the summer!
Wonderful walks every morning. What a beautiful house!
This house feels like home, we want to move here. Spacious, clean and beautifully equipped, with a large kitchen diner fitting us all in, including the dog. The house is so well situated with the park up the road, the river walk 5 minutes away and the Tarka trail conveniently close. We walked from the property on all these paths and up the hill at the back of the house where we had stunning views across Braunton Burrows. Other days we drove to Braunton Burrows or Saunton Sands or Crow point, all 10 minutes drive, and wandered for hours taking in the wildlife, the plants and picking mushrooms and mussels for dinner. We'll be back next year for sure.
Wonderful
What a wonderful house!! The equipment is extensive (baking equipment/games/bodyboards/rock-pooling nets and buckets/Wifi soNetflix on the TV/bluetooth speaker.... Fantastic surfing in Saunton Sands. I bought a very good cheap wetsuit at the corner-shop from shopkeeper Nigel which was great! Also hired some from the beach at Saunton - ded easy. Chippy is brill. Coop 1 min. Totally Awesome!! Great location + second toilet looks new and is great (there were nine of us). Have booked again!!
Amazing
This place was amazing. Lovely relaxing house decorated beautifully with the perfect location to pubs/restaurants. Very well equipped. Would recommend
Fantastic Spacious Cottage that is becoming an Annual Booking
The Old Police House is a spacious house in the heart of Braunton that comfortably fits our group of 4 adults and 5 children. Its in a great location, within walking distance of the shops, bar and famous Squires fish and chips and just a few mins drive from the amazing North Devon beaches. The house has been sympathetically renovated, keeping its quirky features including the wonderful "Cell" with its hand-built bunkbeds. Its well equipped and furnished. There is a large dining table that seats everyone off the open plan kitchen and a great decked garden complete with slide that keeps the kids entertained. In fact the kids keep asking "are we going to the house again for Easter?" Well we have just booked for the third time as its such a comfortable house in a great location.
Lovely atmosphere, relaxing house
This is the second time I have visited the old police house. This time we had lots of sunshine and really enjoyed lazing on the top deck with prossecco and raspberries; cooking up meals in the sociable kitchen (with ingredients from the shops conveniently 2 minutes away) and watching Netflix and a DVD from the selection. During the day we visited nearby beaches and dunes for long walks, the obligatory icecreams, and excellent fish and chips from over the road (squires are award winning and 16 is super - but closed Sundays). I love waking up in the garden room to the sound of distant seagulls reminding you you are on holiday at the seaside. We also spent an evening playing various board games which was great fun and all provided too. The house is really well equipped for relaxing and feels spacious and happy. Oh and the shower is great - proper powerful and gets the salt of you easily. I will have to come back again to use the lovely claw foot bath next time tho.
Exceeded all expectations!!
Right in the heart of the town with a butchers, grocers, bakery, and Coop all 2 minutes walk away as well as plenty of surf shops and lovely cafes. The house was amazing - such a great garden. We sat out on the decking and had a BBQ while the kids ran around the garden having a water fight and tiring themselves out on the slide before going to sleep in the fantastic bunk beds, which have to be seen to be believed - there is no bottom bunk!! When it is sunny there are gorgeous beaches a few minutes drive away, and when it rains there is plenty to do just in the house: there is a cupboard full of board games, a smart TV, tonnes of baking equipment and great wifi. We will definitely be coming back!
Fantastic holiday house , close to village and great location for lots of local beaches
A fantastic house with all the amenities needed for a weekend or holiday stay. Comfortable beds, lots of space , great decked garden and full kitchen facilities We visited local beaches within a few miles. Easy to walk into village (co-op and takeaways just round the corner ) Helpful folder of advice, highly recommended
An amazing holiday home in a perfect location, it was perfect in every possible way! I loved the garden and the whole d?cor and layout of the house!
This is a really well presented property suitable for all types of groups. The property is spacious and homely, and sits in a convenient location within the town and has some excellent surfing beaches within close proximity. We really enjoyed our time and I would recommend this property to anyone. We will visit again!
Lovely house in a perfect location which is just a couple of minutes from shops, bars and restaurants. The property comfortably sleeps 9 and is very well equipped. Overall a fantastic property and we would definitely return.
An amazing property that has everything you could possible need and more! It is a real home from home and we will be going back.
"The property was situated in a good position within the village centre. There was good bus access to other towns and beaches in the area. The owners were friendly, helpful and were there to greet us on the first day. The house was an old police building and had a lot of character. It was spacious and clean and we would definitely visit again."
