The Gate House Reviews

Allison
Beautiful accommodation in our party was 6 Adults 2 babies and 2 dogs we had everything we needed and lots of space. The beds are extremely comfortable and it is spotless. The bottle of prosecco and chocolates were a lovely arrival gift. After reading previous reviews about the hot water we had no problems at all hot water all day. A very lovely stay and would definitely return and recommend it to others.
Myself and friends stayed at the Gatehouse for 3 nights. Lovely position, quiet and very comfortable. Well equipped with all the essentials. We asked for one of the beds to be separated, but this wasnt done, a loss of communication somewhere, however this did not deter us having a great time. Perfect place for a short break with friends.
We stayed at The Gatehouse as a family of 7 for New year. From the moment we arrived we absolutely fell in love. The house is stunning and had a beautiful christmas tree in the kitchen which added to the stunning aesthetics. There was a lovely welcome package for when we arrived. The rooms and bathrooms are beautiful and the kitchen was amazing. We spent most of our time in there. It had everything you needed, we cooked alot of meals so this was great. The underfloor heating was a big hit with everyone. The house is in a small estate of other houses and these all had animals which my children loved, the often went to see the goats and horses. Beds were extremely comfortable. I had read in previous reviews regarding the hot water going off during their stay, this did happen to us and with a quick message to the owner, this was sorted within half an hour. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will 100 return in the future.
Amazing property in a beautiful location. 7 adults stayed and there was plenty of room for all. We had elderly parents in their 80s with us so the downstairs bedroom was perfect for them. The property was done to a high standard throughout and the beds were very comfortable. We walked into a lovely warm and welcoming home upon arrival. We didnt want to leave and my parents are already wanting to book with family again but for a longer stay next time!
A lovely stay, very clean and comfortable, with all the space we needed for a group of 8 plus 2 dogs. The house and surrounding areas are beautiful and our interactions over the phone with the owners were very positive. The only improvements we can think of are some hooks to hang towelscoats in the bathrooms and bedroomshallway. We did run out of hot water on the first morning, when only half of us had a quick shower that day. We then alternated who had quick showers and when, as to avoid the water running out again. Thank you to the owners for being so accommodating when we contacted them about the hot water. All in all, a lovely stay!

We stayed a few nights in the Gate House as we were attending a wedding at middleton lodge we loved our stay there in a lovely location and the house was absolutely gorgeous huge neat and tidy with all mod cons, decor was beautiful with yorkshire stone showing through out the property highly recommend
We usually use Holiday at Home properties but I can honestly say The Gatehouse was beyond our expectations. The property is so spacious, comfy beds etc. The kitchen is very well equipped, the island could have its own postcode, great to sit round while food is being prepared. The two wine coolers were useful too. The location is perfect with access to the A1 not far away at all. We would highly recommend The Gatehouse and would love to return one day.
DO NOT STAY HERE! It is with regret I have to write this bad review. The property itself is absolutely stunning however we had a terrible incident during our stay. After using the hot tub we went to take it turns to use the showers. Fortunately, I was in the downstairs bedroom when I heard a heavy sound of water. I opened the bedroom door to be confronted with what can only be described as a monsoon coming out of the dining area ceiling, water coming through the spot lights and speaker. We turned off the showers immediately, but water was still flowing from the ceiling. We rushed to get bowls, towels, mop and bucket. We called the owner to get help however he advised he was away but said would send someone and gave us access to more towels. We requested a full refund and the owner confirmed he would. No one came that evening and we left to deal with the serious leak ourselves. There was water everywhere and after hours we eventually managed to clear it all up. Our Chinese takeaway also arrived during the leak so was ruined. We let the owner know no one had come and he said he would send a plumber the next morning but of course no plumber came. The estate manager did come but it was all a little too late. The owner had admitted they'd had an issue and were trying to work out where the leak was. We worked out in 2 minutes with the estate manager that it was coming from the en suite! It is bad form of the owner not to have warned us of the issue ahead of our stay putting us at risk. We also note the review ahead of our stay also reported a leak and is not acceptable to not have warned us. We made the most of our stay despite the terrible leak. After our stay the owner refused to honour our refund only offering 100 wouldn't even cover cost of Chinese saying that we stayed and still used all the facilities. We could not leave on the Friday as we were dealing with the leak and also had been drinking, we stayed Saturday as the owner promised to send a plumber who did not materialise. We made the best of a very bad situation. I have spent the last 2 months trying to get the refund promised with Sykes and owner. It has been horrific! We have finally reluctantly accepted 200 to draw line under it. We are all still astounded by the behaviour of the owner, when we dealt with the leak and helped protect his property. If we had not spotted the leak when we did and been so proactive, I'm sure the whole ceiling would of come down with the amount of water coming through. We understand these things happen and would of been happy to return to the property as it is beautiful, but it is such a shame the owner has dealt with this appallingly, therefore we would never return!!

Beautiful property in a lovely setting which is equipped with everything you will need. Beds are very comfortable with extremely warm duvets. Three bedrooms have good wardrobes however the bedroom downstairs has none and the access to the utility room is via this bedroom. Also slight negative is that dogs are not allowed upstairs and there is no private garden only a patio.
Lovely property, will definitely go back. Just one issue, the shower drain in the en suite upstairs is blocked which caused the water to come through the roof in the kitchendiner area. You can see it has happened before with the water damage already showing on the kitchen roof. I reported this issue on Tuesday morning as soon as it started to drip.
Excellent property to relax and put your feet up,only problem we had was hot ... Excellent property to relax and put your feet up,only problem we had was hot water in the morning but once we got in contact with the owner he sorted the problem out
The gatehouse was wonderful, spacious & beautiful location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The property was outstanding & it is a superb location for those who love a mixture of walks & relaxation, however, I would strongly advise to advertise that this is a working farm, lots of wildlife, horses, dogs etc very close by & able to get to the house. We had 2 patterdales who are well behaved but one of them does not like other dogs so this was a bit of an issue as you could not really enclose the front garden & other animals did come right outside the front door & do their business etc. if you have children etc this may be a problem for safety just needs advertising clearly. Also, the public pathway has no signs about horses, enclosures, keep dogs on leads etc... it really does need better signing. Other than that, the area was beautiful & 100 recommend The Fox Hole & Spotted Dog Pub Thanks
The venue was beautifully decorated throughout and very clean. We asked for tea towels and they brought them straight away. On arrival there was a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates which was a lovely touch. Unfortunately , not for the want of trying we just could not get the hot tub to work. I dont believe this was because we were leaving too long between adding logs, as we were constantly adding. This was raised and someone had come and added more logs but regretfully we left without having been able to use it. It would have been good if someone could have set the hot tub away prior to our visit to ensure it worked and then we could have maintained during our visit. Other than that we had a lovely stay thank you. There was regular contact throughout the visit with the owner and she helped as much as she could.
Overall we had a lovely stay, the house was lovely and owners helpful. The house was decorated for Christmas which was lovely and the drinks and Christmas cake was a nice touch. The area was lovely and beautiful views. There are a few things we noticed that would have improved our stay. In the description it states there is access to a gym, this is not true and the owners said there is no gym. In the pictures there are two living rooms, there is only one living room as one has been turned into a bedroom. The hot water gets turned off during the day which isnt ideal when people are having a shower so we needed to message the owner about this. In the description it stated the kitchen is fit for a chef, there wasnt any baking trays. There also isnt enough seats at the table for 8 people when the house itself fits up to 8 people. There were no instructions for the thermostat and the house was boiling. There was a leak in the bathroom that leaked into the kitchen and we needed to put bowls down, the owner came round to look at this but the leak continued. Some of the lamps in the bedroom were not working and some had no bulbs. If these things were addressed it would be the perfect stay.
Really enjoyed our stay here. Had everything we needed. Only thing was hot water went off but I messaged owner and he remotely turned back on. My hangover went for a little while as had a cold shower but soon sorted. We are arranging to come back next year we enjoyed that much. Not far away from home but felt I was ages away. Thank you
Beautiful house. Loved how big, open plan and modern it is. Very relaxing in an evening with lovely ambient lighting. A few niggles. Not signposted at all so we couldnt find it..listing shows an extra living room however this is now a bedroom. A tad misleading. No instructions how to operate the thermostats. Upstairs was cold downstairs was boiling. Lights seem to have a mind of their own. Shower tray in en suite master room is very slippery. Lack of oven trays none and only one frying pan that stuff stuck to. Luckily we prepped most meals before we came but it was difficult to make a full English breakfast. Large sofa is quite lumpy and sunken in places and low down but a fab size. Spaniel Dog kept coming in and jumping all over everyone and on furniture, also pooed on car park, however it is a really lovely dog which luckily our dog got on with. We enjoyed the board games in laundry room cupboard. Hot tub was lovely but as it is wood fired it isnt easy to control temperature. Lovely once it was right temperature. Overall we enjoyed our break.
Beautiful property and a very high quality, the location was great for us as we wanted peace and quiet. Every amenity we could have needed had been provided. Easy driving to nearby Richmond and lots of lovely walks from the property or a short drive away. We would definitely go back. We have an 11 and an 8 year old and the owners let them use a nearby area within sight of us for kicking a football and we had a slight problem with hot water which was resolved very quickly.
We had a great weekend stay here. Small issue with beds being split but within 10 minutes this was all sorted. Very comfortable and modern. Only issue we had was 2 hounds that kept coming into the property and they were constantly jumping up and actually made one of the party bleed. Hot tub was a great addition. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will definitely be back.
