St Hilda's Lodge Reviews

Christian
We felt that the lodge was a little un loved and tired. Hot tub was murky and sauna was in need of some maintenance. Tv in second bedroom was unable to use as no signal or Internet connection. We even bought a new cable for this to no avail. Oven needs repair as door seal failed. No dryer in lodge as stated in listing. Parking was an issue as we were not allowed to park anywhere near lodge. Farmer quite rude about the parking situation.
Well all I can say is this is a lovely lodge and the people who run it seem really nice. Main issue is parking and on going dispute between owner and her ex. Ripped the side of my car trying to negotiate the parking past new fences the ex had put up round hisland. Then ended up with a flat tyre due to a screw which looked the same as the one used for the fences.140 just for the tyre. We were told not to park at the bottom of the narrow road as that was ex's land but didn't have a choice as parking was so tight. As expected got told off the ex to move the car. Other wise we loved the lodge, lovely bedsbedding and towels to die for. Very well equipped and the hot tub although dated was fab. Hope things get sorted out for all concerned soon.

We enjoyed our stay at St Hildas Lodge which was nicely decorated for Christmas. It is a lovely place, there were a few light bulbs not working and the parking is a little tight for big cars but these are minor things. We got back home and decided to book it again as we enjoyed it so much. Thank you
Michelle
It is absolutely lovely. There is everything you would want for a great break couldnt understand the negative feed back some gave we enjoyed every minute. I will be coming again thanks Linda
First class accommodation, St Hilda's Lodge is well maintained and we have no hesitation in recommending the lodge as a great place to stay. Linda and Anne were so helpful, making sure that we had everything we needed and kept in touch during our stay. The hot tub and sauna are a real bonus especially after walking for miles! The Badger Hounds serves excellent food, run by Stephen & Andy. They are really welcoming friendly hosts and already we are looking forward to our next visit. The week has just flown by and hopefully we will be back soon. Definitely a wonderful experience with a well deserved 5 . Dee & John.
We had a brilliant time in this lodge, very clean and hot tub a bonus after walking all day, location close to all the places we wanted to visit,I wouldn't recommend the fish and chips shop in Hinderwell as were awful, parking was difficult at lodge so we just parked down the lane and walked,we have a large car, would definitely reccomend.
Alexandra
Fantastic lodge ! Well stocked with everything you need . The people in the caravans nearby were lovely and friendly . Could have done with a little book explaining some basic things all in one place , like the radiators , lights etc ,but Anne was always available to advise and honestly went above and beyond. So nice to be able to sit out the front or the back .The hot tub is nice and private. One side of the lodge is really dark because of the fencing and trees, so would be great of it was cut down a bit to let light in one of the bedrooms and bathrooms ? Will def return !! Thank you so much .
What a lovely place St Hildas cottage is. Plenty of room. Modern clean and everything you need is in there. Hot tub and sauna were great after a days walking. Cottage situated in great place for walking. No hesitation in returning Thankyou so very much.
The car parking is really poor. I only have an Audi A3 and trying to back in up a drive was irritating but getting round the corner at the top, too difficult. I've seen something that says parking for 2 cars..... Also gate through to main road was often locked which meant one night had to drive to the pub or be late. Another night had to walk round
Never Again
The Cabin. - Lovely, good size, well equipped. Needs a bit of TLC but nothing major. Very comfortable. We booked directly with the owner.. The owner. - Linda is so warm and welcoming- truly wants guests to enjoy their stay and does her best to make that possible. Us. - Couple in our late 70s with some health issues and mobility problems in need of a pleasant stay and change of scenery after the year we?ve all had. The farm owner- owns the surrounding land and properties. Never want to cross his path again. We were totally unaware until we were almost ready to set off from home of the hostilities going on between the cabin owner and the farm owner. Unfortunately the nastiness of it all spilled over on to us. He did whatever he could via his minions to ruin our holiday and he succeeded. Eg parking was made as awkward as possible. A gate that everyone else in the site used was locked to us so making a 5 minute walk to the village shop a half mile round trip over a farm track and up hill and down dale. Hinderwell village- full of lovely people who couldn?t have been nicer. So thanks to the owner of Hinderwell farm our holiday was a miserable experience not to be repeated. We left early and wouldn?t have stayed as long as we did if our granddaughter hadn?t arranged to join us for a few days during the second week. Anyone considering this property please be aware of the situation. Don?t be caught out as we were.
Everything I expected & more
I was apprehensive coming to this lodge as I had read some negative reviews about it being dated & cold. I can?t believe that anyone has a bad word to say about this place, it was absolutely stunning - it felt like home. It was tremendously clean & cosy and Linda has thought about everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All you need to take is food and drink because the kitchen is so well stocked with utensils. There?s plenty of fluffy white towels to use - and Linda was kind enough to leave us some beach towels in the sauna. The hot tub was the icing on the cake for us, we even sat in it in the rain. The hot tub & sauna are at the back of the lodge secluded by trees makes it very private. At the front of the lodge the decking area is perfect for a morning coffee with some lovely views of the area. There is a washing machine & dryer which came in handy. The beds were very comfortable, and it was nice to be able to watch Netflix in bed. We honestly did not want to leave, and we will definitely be returning soon. Thank you Linda if you are reading this! We had a gorgeous time.
Lovely lodge. Beautiful area. Walking distance from lovely pubs and local store. Great hot tub. Clean, tidy with great kitchen and bathrooms. Good sized rooms. Nice decor. Slightly cramped parking outside with caravans around you, but this does not take anything away from the holiday. Good value for money. Owners were great. They kept in touch throughout our stay. Would recommend.
Please ignore the negative and picky reviews about this lodge, it seems some people cannot be pleased. We walked into the lodge and said WOW because to us it just felt like home. Extremely clean, plenty of towels and the beds were super comfy I had the best night sleep Ive had in a while. It was so warm and cosy. Linda has thought of everything, the kitchen has anything you might need. With Netflix and now tv you can watch films, the Internet was fab. The hot tub and sauna were the icing on the cake for us, we even sat in the hot tub in the rain we didnt care. You wont want to leave, and we definitely will be returning. Thanks again Linda you have created a lovely home from home xx
The lodge was very comfortably furnished, well laid out and plenty of kit in the kitchen, although could not find a chopping board. The bathrooms though were very cold,no heating,no where for towels to dry....brrrrrrrrr!. It was very unfortunate that the weather was against us the second half of the week, over all a lovely lodge, good welcome and contact with Linda.
There were four adults and our spaniel staying at the lodge. We all had a great holiday. The lodge was comfortable and clean with everything you could need. The only thing that would make it better for four adults would be to have a proper shower over the bath in the main bathroom, we all had to share the on suite shower. The area was lovely with a few walks straight from the front door, and not far too travel to other attractions.
We plan to return
Catherine
Really disappointed that the hot tub did not function correctly. Got told owner would only charge 100 per night if booked direct. Made some complaints to which you were unable to resolve and was told it was he said she said now and it was up to us to go to owner if not happy. Very disappointed in the service and would not recommend Skyes cottages and would not use again to book another break away.
Perfect Stay
I have just spent a week with my daughter and dog here. Linda the host was so lovely and accommodating. I couldnt have asked for more and nothing was to much. The accommodation had everything you need and more and there are lovely little extras that I didnt expect. I am definitely booking again as the local residents are also very friendly and give you such a warm welcome. The area is perfect its a 15 min drive to Whitby but there's a lovely bay a couple of mins away and amazing walks. :-)
We had a week in the lodge in July 2020 which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only downside was the internet wasnt working which was very frustrating for my son. Linda was most apologetic and was trying her upmost to get things fixed. Otherwise a lovely break
Michael
Lovely lodge, all the little essentials like being at home. Great location.
Relaxing retreat
Absolutely fabulous holiday me hubby and puppy. Linda a great host, and the lodge was lovely a home from home a great place to relax the hot tub and sauna were an every day must (even in the rain),set on a small farm the pup was fascinated by all the animals. The local pubs were great Badger and hound (eating pub)and we loved the banter in the Brown cow all dog friendly . We visited Whitby bit too busy for the puppy, but loved our daily walk down to Runswick Bay beach .. really did not want to come home already looking forward to going again .
The lodge is extremely well placed to explore a beautiful part of coastline and the north york moors, however the small holding is a little run down. The lodge is comfortable and well equipped. This said, the listing boasts a hot tub, we had to pay a surcharge for its use not very clear on the listing and were unable to enjoy it 1 of our 2 evenings, as it was still heating up and if we had not taken a gazebo with us it would have unusable in the rain. Not sure it was value for money.
A lovely relaxing holiday
The Lodge was lovely. There was everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The owner met and greeted us ensuring we had her number if we needed anything. The Lodge is situated on a farm and is within a small static caravan park. We understood most of these mobile homes were owned but most seemed empty while we were there. We were able to park directly outside the lodge but it was tight getting in and out. The hot tub was lovely, it's situated to the rear of the property on wooden decking with a large fence and trees to enclose this area. There's a wooden hot with a sound system and infra red sauna. The Lodge is very modern and well furnished. I have never seen so many cushions. I had a mobile signal (vodafone) and there's WiFi The tv had Netflix so kept my Grandson busy. There are tv's in the bedrooms should you want to use them The shower in the master ensuite is fab. The best shower I have ever used and there's an abundance of fluffy white towels There's nothing here to not like. There are goats, sheep, chickens and rhea and again children love them The local pubs are The Badger and Hound, you need to book because they were turning people away who hadn't booked even though we never saw the restaurant even half full, they mustn't have the staff to cope and the staff on duty seemed stressed The food was ok and average priced The other pub is The Brown Cow sorry we didn't eat here it looked a bit more of a drinkers pub than an eating place Try The Ellerby Country Inn, 5 mins drive away and a lovely place. Nice staff, clean, just spot on and excellent food at a very reasonable price
Deborah
Very nice and well equipped lodge. Fab hot tub. The owner was excellent. Very helpful and kind. We had a really nice holiday thanks
Lovely relaxing break...
This is the second time we have stayed at the lodge. The lodge is set in a very peaceful location and a great base for all the North Yorkshire coastal resorts. Set on a small holding, Linda is an absolutely fantastic host. Linda took our daughter around to meet the farm animals and let her feed the lambs and collect and keep the chicken and Rhea (yes Rhea) eggs - which made fantastic scrambled eggs! It made my daughter's holiday! The beds are extremely comfortable - which for us is an absolute must. The hot tub and sauna were the icing on the cake - lovely and relaxing. When it came to the end of our short stay we didn't want to leave!
Fabulous location home from home , spotlessly clean. Linda the ownerVery helpful and friendly .
Mrs
Just ending a pleasant weekend spent with family and friends. A lovely cabin with excellent facilities, kids particular loved the hot tub and sauna. In terms of amenities, local pubs great with plenty of facilities and dog walks close by. All in all a great stay and value for money!!
Stewart
Lovely quite location . Linda was in touch with us for if we needed any help or advice. Near to many clean beaches and lovely countryside. Nice gastro pub in village. A very comfortable lodge and beds amazing. Great fresh eggs from the farm . Our granddaughter loved the farm animals and birds. The hot tub and sauna was icing on the cake
A great base for a holiday in this lovely area. Hildas Lodge had everything we needed. It was clean, very homely and very well equipped. The owner was very welcoming on arrival and very helpful. Would definitely recommend this property.
Jeanette
The lodge was amazing, much bigger than it appeared on the photographs. Owner Linda was really welcoming and did everything possible to make sure we had everything we needed.
Rachael
Lovely place to stay. Very comfortable and well equipped. Loved the hot tub and sauna. Linda the owner was very attentive and helpful. Brought us fresh eggs from the farm too. Would definitely return.
Lorraine
In a few word s you cant improve perfection . .the lodge was everything we wanted Linda the landlady was very welcoming wish we didn't have to leave absolutely superb
A lovely cabin with lots of extra and home from home comforts. Very clean and the shower was lovely. Comfy beds and the decor was very tasteful. Only point on this is that would have preferred a welcome information folder with details of the internet password which did not work and amenities out and about. Who to contact locally in case of emergencies etc... It would be good to know where to leave the key when leaving at the end of the week as was not sure of the procedure and where to leave it. We left very early due to a long drive home so did not know who to contact so early or where to leave the key. My son liked collecting the eggs but was only able to sample once in the week as the locals seem to have taken them very early. They are lovely and was a nice addition to breakfast. With regard to the booking however I felt when searching for a cottage specific with hot tub through Sykes I did not expect to have to pay extra for this upon arrival. The marketing on this cottage can be misleading so check the small print! It would be better to include in the overall price as the site can be very deceiving and an extra 70 does tap into spending money especially when you are a family and on a budget.
St Hildas Lodge was an excellent choice for our dog friendly holiday. It was spacious, clean and everything needed for a very satisfying stay was provided. Linda, the owner, was very welcoming and was always at the end of a telephone if any help was needed, which it was not as everything went smoothly. Hinderwell itself had 2 dog friendly pubs within 5 minutes walk from the Lodge and both served a good selection of drinks and very good food. I would highly recommend this Lodge for a holiday and will definately return for another relaxing stay.
Probably the most relaxing holiday we've had property was super hot tub and ... Probably the most relaxing holiday we've had property was super hot tub and sauna we're fantastic we both said how chilled out we were
Daniel
LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT. BUT VERY PEACEFUL WITH LOVELY WALKS.
Leslie
